Some of the factors that determine if the population of Africa estimated at 1.4 billion, is a blessing, among others are, the capacity to ensure food security, control over urbanization and youth employment. Unfortunately, these are areas of challenges which many African countries are struggling to resolve. Experts have argued that a major reason for this unpleasant scenario is that the agricultural sector is under-capitalized and lacks value addition. Deficient capacity to produce and process agro-industrial commodities results in limited scope on industrialization. Therefore, the Sub-Sahara African countries fail to gain from opportunities to add value and eradicate poverty.
