Use of Data and Management Information Systems for Tracking Results

Result-based monitoring and evaluation differs extensively from the implementation-focused monitoring and evaluation because the former emphasizes project outcomes and impacts as against the latter, which focuses on inputs and outputs. Since there is growing emphasis on performance for results which tied the disbursement of funds to achieving results, then, it is very apt in our contemporary time to give preference and focus more attention on the deployment of result-based monitoring and evaluation for tracking results. Data collection and information management provide the basis for ascertaining the level of results achieved. Therefore, the quality of data collected on results and the management of information for making proper decision on the extent to which the expected results have been realized are very relevant for comprehensive and appropriate tracking of results of development interventions. In order to effectively track results, different personnel in different units of an implementation team must be well grounded in the use of data and management information systems. However, the deficiency of some personnel saddled with the responsibility of data collection and analysis in using knowledge of modern tools for collecting and analysing data remains an issue of concern. Furthermore, it also challenging that some of those who are knowledgeable about the use of the tools are not really up to date on the advanced methods for data collection, analysis and interpretation. Therefore, during this training facilitators will engage the participants in a practical and interactive approach on the use of modern tools for data and management information systems. Participants will be equipped with requisite skills on modern data gathering method and techniques, and the procedures for analysis and visualization to improve the use of data and management information systems for tracking results.
