The universe of data and information modelling has changed vastly over the past few years. The available volume of information is growing rapidly, while opportunities to expand insights by combining data are accelerating. Bigger and better data give organisations more panoramic and granular views of their environment. So also, upping competencies in areas of data handling and usage has translated into increased ability to see what was previously invisible, thereby improving operational strategy, result-focus and overall service delivery. There is no better way of measuring the effectiveness of a programme and justifying the significance of a change than collecting data to know its outcomes and impacts. However, no meaningful outcome and impact assessment achievable in the absence of a cutting edge monitoring and evaluation system. Among others, monitoring and evaluation provide basic information about the nature and context of the programme. In addition, monitoring and evaluation not only affirms existing evidence but also underscores other evidence that may inform decision making about impact assessment. Regardless of these lofty benefits, however, the success of this revolution is predicated on organisations’ ability to identify, combine, and manage multiple sources of data; capability to build advanced- analytical models for predicting and optimizing outcomes; and possession of requisite hands to elicit result-focused decisions that yield better outcomes.
