The agricultural sector is a major contributor to the huge Nigerian economy. It not only serves as a means of employment for millions of citizens but is indeed a lifeline as far as food production is concerned. It is a known fact that the productivity potential of Nigerian agricultural sector is currently being under-harnessed; and its attendant negative impact on the improvement of the lives of farmers and the economy are quite obvious. Over the years, several donor-assisted projects as well as those undertaken by development organisations have been initiated to help in improving the performance of the agricultural sector. However, insufficient quality in project design, poor administration or an outright indifference to quality have often led to poor outputs, which imposes serious drain on the utility of financial resources and limits the achievement of objectives.

Discontinuing this trend therefore requires that projects dedicated to agricultural productivity provide more consistent quality, value to clients and stakeholders’ leadership and institute result-focused management. A way to achieving this is the adoption of Total Quality Management (TQM) principles, which is based on the participation of an organisation’s people and aiming at long term success. This is achieved through client satisfaction and benefits all stakeholders of the project and society.

This training workshop will therefore enhance the competence and capability of participants in applying the principles and practices of total quality management and contemporary leadership to agricultural projects for the effective and efficient achievement of their project development objectives.
